The guys go to the comic book store on "Anything Can Happen Thursday", despite that the comic book store night is usually Wednesday. Penny tags along with them and meets the comic book owner, Stuart, who manages to ask her out on a date. Leonard is buoyed by the fact that the same type as Lenard like an isotope can get a girl like Penny, but is also jealous of him. To get over this situation, Leonard, with Howard and Raj, goes to a bar to pick up women. At the bar, Howard and Leonard strike out on their own for their poor joke, while Raj makes out with an overweight woman and spends a night with her. Meanwhile, Stuart and Penny return to her apartment after the diner for a cup of coffee, where Stuart and Sheldon get into a debate over a fictional character in Batman II. When Sheldon wins after Stuart gets tired, Penny has fallen asleep on the couch.
Word Review
[The apartment] Sheldon: Hu-u-u-uh…. Hu-u-u-uh! Leonard: Problem? Sheldon: This is Thai food. Howard: Here we go. Sheldon: We don't have Thai food on Thursday. We have pizza on Thursday.(僕らは木曜日にはタイ料理を食べないよ。 Leonard: Yes, but we all agreed that the third Thursday of every month would be Anything Can Happen Thursday.(そうだけど、毎月第三木曜は何でもありにしようって合意したじゃないか。) Sheldon: Well apparently the news didn't reach my digestive system, which, when startled, has its own version of Anything Can Happen Thursday.(その情報は僕の消化器系には届かなかったようだ、それで驚いてそれ用の「何でもあり木曜日」があるのさ。) Howard: Come on, the whole idea behind Anything Can Happen Thursday is to get out of this rut we've been in lately.(勘弁してよ、「何でもあり木曜日」の考えの裏には最近のマンネリから抜け出すってことがあるんだ。) Sheldon: Rut? I think you mean consistency. And if we're going to abandon that, then why even call it Thursday? Let's call it Quonko Day and divide it into 29 hours of 17 minutes apiece, and celebrate it by sacrificing a goat to the mighty god Ra.(マンネリ? Raj: I could go for some goat.(僕がヤギを捕まえに行くよ。) Leonard: Sheldon, we agreed we'd do something different tonight.(シェルダン、今夜はいつもと違うことしようって合意したじゃないか。) Sheldon: All right. Let's go to the comic book store.(わかった、じゃあ漫画書店に行こう。) Raj: We went to the comic book store last night.(僕ら昨夜漫画書店に行ったよ。) Sheldon: Last night was Wednesday. Wednesday is comic book night. Tonight, we'll be going on Thursday, because it's Anything Can Happen Thursday.(昨夜は水曜日だ。 Leonard: Way to think outside but pressed right up against the box, Sheldon.(新しい観点でのやり方だけど、でも押し付けられてるみたいだよ、シェルダン。) Raj: So what are we going to do tonight?(じゃあ今夜は何をするの?) Howard: If I may proffer a suggestion, in bars all across this great nation of ours, Thursday night is Ladies' Night. Which means, as the evening progresses, we will get better looking courtesy of 99 cent margaritas and two-for-one Jell-O shots*.(言わせていただけるなら、この国のあらゆるバーで木曜は女性の日だ。 Leonard: Come on, Howard, the odds of us picking up girls in a bar are practically zero.(おいおい、ハワード、僕らがバーで女の子を手に入れる確率なんて実質的にゼロだよ。) Howard: Really? Are you familiar with the Drake Equation*?(本当? Sheldon: The one that estimates the odds of making contact with extraterrestrials by calculating the product of an increasingly restrictive series of fractional values such as those stars with planets, and those planets likely to develop life? Howard: Yeah, that one. You can modify it to calculate our chances of having sex by changing the formula to use the number of single women in Los Angeles, the number of those who might find us attractive, and what I call the Wolowitz Coefficient.(そう、それだよ。 Raj: The Wolowitz Coefficient?(ウォロウィッツ係数?) Howard: Neediness times dress size squared. Crunching the numbers, I come up with a conservative 5,812 potential sex partners within a 40-mile radius.(渇望掛ける洋服サイズの2乗だ。 Leonard: You're joking. Howard: I'm a horny engineer, Leonard. I never joke about math or sex.(僕は好色な技術者だ、レナード。 Raj: Well, what are we waiting for? Leonard: You're right. It's Anything Can Happen Thursday, let's hit the clubs and meet hot women!(君は正しい。 Raj: Here we go. Lock up your daughters! We're going to hit it and quit it.(さあ行こう。 Leonard: Or we could finish eating and go to the comic book store.(さもなければ、食べ終わったら漫画書店に行こう。) Raj: Also a good plan.(それもいいね。) Howard: Alright, but next Anything Can Happen Thursday, we're definitely going to a bar.(わかった、でも次の「何でもあり木曜日」は絶対バーに行こう。) Leonard: Oh, absolutely.(当然。) Raj: You heard that, Ladies' Night ladies? We're eventually coming for you! Sheldon: Fascinating.
[Later] Penny: Oh hey, guys, where're you headed?(みんな、どこ行くの?) Sheldon: To the comic book store. You're probably thinking, the comic book store? On a Thursday? Why, I've fallen down the rabbit hole* and into a land of madness. What you have failed to take into account, Penny, is that this is Anything Can Happen Thursday.(漫画書店さ。 Penny: You got me. While you're there, could pick me up a few comics for my nephew's birthday?(その通りよ。 Sheldon: I think you mean comic books. Comics are feeble attempts at humour featuring talking babies and anthropomorphized pets found traditionally in the optimistically named funny pages.(君は漫画本のことを言ってるんだね。 Penny: Leonard, could you pick me up a few comics for my nephew's birthday?(レナード、私の甥の誕生日のために漫画本をいくつか買ってきてくれない?) Leonard: Sure. What does he like? Penny: I don't know, he's 13. Just pick out anything.(わからないわ。 Sheldon: Just pick out anything? Maybe at the same time we can pick out a new suit for him without knowing his size, or pick out his career for him without knowing his aptitude, or pick out a new breakfast cereal without knowing his fibre requirements or his feelings about little marshmallows.(何でもいいから選んで? Penny: Spider-Man. Get him Spider-Man.(スパイダーマンよ。 Sheldon: Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man, The Marvelous Adventures of Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099?(驚異のスパイダーマン、究極のスパイダーマン、華麗なスパイダーマン、スパイダーマンの素敵な冒険、それともスパイダーマン2099?) Penny: Leonard? Leonard: You know this can go on all night, why don't you just come with us?(これって一晩中続くよ、僕らと一緒に来たらどう?) Penny: Ugh, that's what I was trying to avoid.(うー、それだけは避けようとしたんだけど。) Sheldon: Oh, I forgot Sensational Spider-Man.(おー、センセーショナル・スパイダーマンを忘れてた。)
[The comic book store] Penny: Oh, what a cute, little store. Everybody's staring at me.(おー、なんて可愛いお店。 Leonard: Don't worry, they're more scared of you than you are of them.(心配しないで、君が彼らを怖がるより、彼らは君を怖がってる。) Penny: Unlikely. Here, what about this one for my nephew?(そうかしら、ほら、これなんか甥にどう?) Sheldon: A superb choice. Penny: Oh, great. Sheldon: Yeah, provided he has already read Infinite Crisis and 52*, and is familiar with the re-establishment of the DC multiverse**.(そう、もしも彼が既にインフィニット・クライシスと52を読んでいて、それにDCマルチヴァースの再構築に詳しいならね。)
Penny: What's a multiverse?(マルチ・バースって何?) Sheldon: Get her out of here.(彼女をここからつまみ出して。) Leonard: Come on, I'll help you pick something.(待ってよ、僕が選ぶの手伝うよ。) Raj: That's right. She's with us. Guys like that are so pathetic.(それがいい。 Howard: Tell me about it. Look, a new Batman belt buckle.(それはわかるよ。 Store clerk(Stuart): Oh, hey, Leonard. Can I help you find something? Leonard: Oh, hey, Stuart. This is Penny. She's looking for some comic books.(オー、ヘイ、スチュアート、こちらペニー、彼女は漫画本を探してるんだ。) Stuart: Oh, really. Blink twice if you're here against your will.(本当? Leonard: I think we're fine, Stuart. Stuart: Let me know if you need anything. Penny: Thanks. He seems like a nice guy.(ありがとう。 Leonard: You mean for someone who's into comic books?(漫画書店に入ってるにしてはってこと?) Penny: No, no, no, I just meant for… yeah. Leonard: Penny, just because people appreciate comic books doesn't make them weirdos. Stuart's a terrific artist. He went to the Rhode Island School of Design.(ペニー、単に漫画本を好きだからって変人だって思わないで。 Penny: What about the guy over there in the superhero T-shirt tucked into his sweatpants?(あそこのスーパーヒーローのT-シャツの裾をスェットパンツに入れてる人はどうなの?) Leonard: Ah, yeah, that's Captain Sweatpants. He doesn't really help the point I'm trying to make.(あー、そうね、あれはスェットパンツ隊長。
(Howard and Sheldon are looking through a rack of comic books. Each says "Got it" in turn as they look past each book until they eventually reach the one in the middle when they both together grab the book and shout "Need it!") Howard: Let it go, Sheldon.(手を離して、シェルダン。) Sheldon: Why should I let it go? I saw it first.(どうして僕が手を離さなきゃならないんだ、僕が最初に見つけたんだ。) Howard: Yes, but I saw it from the front.(そうだね、でも僕が正面から見つけたんだ。) Sheldon: A far less impressive feat.(取るに足らない功績だ。) Howard: Oh, come on! I need this for my Batman collection.(いいじゃないか、これは僕のバットマン・コレクションに必要なんだ。) Sheldon: I need it for my Robin* collection.(それは僕のロビン・コレクションに必要なんだ。) Sheldon: Why would I gamble? It's mine. Howard: You let go. Sheldon: No, you! Leonard: Problem? Sheldon: Yes, he won't let go of my comic book. Howard: It's my comic book! Sheldon: Leonard, we need a ruling. Leonard: Uh, cut it in half? Penny: Excuse me. Stuart: Hello again. Penny: Hi. What would you recommend as a present for a 13-year-old boy?(ハイ、13歳の男の子だったらどれがお薦め?) Stuart: A 13-year-old girl. But if you're dead set on a comic book, try this.(13歳の女の子。 Penny: Oh, Hellblazer. What's this about?(おー、ヘルブレイザー。 Stuart: A morally ambiguous confidence man who smokes, has lung cancer and is tormented by the spirits of the undead.(道徳的に二面性を持っててて、たばこ吸いで肺がんの男がゾンビみたいな魂に苦しめられるんだ。) Penny: Well, if that doesn't make me the favourite aunt, I don't know what will. Stuart: Depends. Do you like it?(場合によるけど、君それ好きかい?) Penny: It's really good.(とっても素敵よ。) Stuart: Yes, that's you.(じゃあそれは君だ。) Penny: That's so sweet, but what if I didn't like it?(とってもかわいいわ、でも私が気に入らなかったどうしたの?) Stuart: It'd still be you, but I'd feel like an idiot.(それでも君だけど、でも僕は馬鹿みたいだね。) Leonard: I don't believe it. Stuart's putting the moves on Penny.(信じられない。 Howard: I have got to learn how to draw. Sheldon: Once again, defeated by your own prurient interests.(また再び、君自信の好色な興味に打ち負けた。) Raj: Guys, have you seen Stuart all up in Penny's business over there?(君達、スチュアートがあそこでペニーにちょっかい出してるのを見たかい?) Leonard: Nobody's up in anybody's business, let's just buy our stuff and go.(だれも誰にもちょっかいなんて出してない、僕らの物を買って帰ろう。) Penny: Okay, you've got my number, now, give me the picture.(オーケー、私の携帯番号教えてあげたわ、その絵をちょうだい。) Stuart: You drive a hard bargain, but here.(取り引き上手いね、でも、ほら。) Penny: All right. So, um, just give me a call.(いいわ、それで、電話ちょうだい。) Sheldon: So, Leonard, how are you enjoying Anything Can Happen Thursday?(それで、レナード、何でもあり木曜を楽しんでるかい?)
[The apartment]
(Sheldon has the comic book.) Sheldon: Look at that, that's a dent. Thank you, Howard Ham-Fisted Wolowitz. Did you just shut the TV off in the middle of the classic Deep Space Nine/Star Trek The Original Series Trouble With Tribbles crossover episode?(あれ見て、へこみだ。 Leonard: Apparently so.(そうみたいだね。) Sheldon: Are you ill? Leonard: No. Sheldon: All right. Then is it fair to say that you're experiencing some sort of emotional turmoil over the events involving Penny earlier this evening?(わかった。 Leonard: When did you pick up on that?(いつそんなこと思い出したんだ?) Sheldon: A moment ago, when you turned off the TV in the middle of the classic Deep Space Nine/Star Trek The Original Series Trouble With Tribbles crossover episode. Would you like some advice?(ちょっと前さ、君がディープ・スペース・ナインとスター・トレック・オリジナル・シリーズ・トリブルの問題のクロスオーバー・エピソードの途中でテレビのスイッチを切った時だ。 Leonard: Sure, why not?(ああ、してくれよ。) Sheldon: Then, this is the perfect time to launch a blog with an interactive comments section.(じゃあ、今が対話式のブログを立ち上げるには最適な時だ。) Leonard: Gee, thanks a lot. Sheldon: Would you rather I offer my personal insight?(僕の個人的な洞察を聞きたいかい?) Leonard: I don't need any insights. I just want to know why Penny's more interested in Stuart than me. We're practically the same guy.(洞察なんか聞きたくない。 Sheldon: Oh, I disagree. Stuart is taller, artistic, self-employed and, most significantly, he gets 45 percent off comic books.(おー、それには賛成できない。 Leonard: You're right, I really should be asking strangers on the Internet.(君は正しい、僕はインターネットで見知らぬ人に聞くべきだ。) Sheldon: My original point.
[The stairs] Sheldon: Chinese food, vintage video games. After the nightmare of Anything Can Happen Thursday, this is Friday night the way it was meant to be.(中華料理、年代物ビデオゲーム。 Howard: Who's up for Sheldon-Free Saturday?(シェルダン抜き土曜日に賛成の人?) Penny: (coming out of apartment) Oh, hey guys. Leonard: Hey, Penny… and Stuart, hey Stuart. Stuart: Hey, guys. Howard: So what are you kids up to?(君らどこ行くの?) Penny: Uh, Stuart has a piece in an art show that's opening tonight.(今夜開かれるアート・ショーにスチュアートが作品だしてるの。) Leonard: And you guys are going together, great… Stuart: It is great. Really great. Freaking awesome. What are you guys doing?(素晴らしい、本当に、最高に素敵だ。 Penny: It's Friday night, that means Chinese food and vintage video games, right?(金曜の夜は中華料理、年代物ビデオゲームのはずよ、でしょ?) Sheldon: Vintage doesn't even begin to describe what we have planned. Tonight, we are playing the classic 1980 interactive text adventure*, Zork**.
Penny: Wow, Zork. Well, you guys have fun.(ワオ、ゾーク、おもしろそうね。) Stuart: Yeah, see you guys. Howard: See you, Stuart. Leonard: Hey, Howard? Howard: Yes. Leonard: Take me to a bar with women.(僕を女の子のいるバーに連れてってくれ。) Howard: Really? Leonard: Yeah. Howard: Okay! Let me just go inside and slip off my underwear.(オーケー、中で下着脱がせてくれ。) Leonard: Why? Howard: Well, if I get lucky, I don't want to be caught in my Aquaman briefs.(もしも上手くいった時に、アクアマンのパンツを見られたくないんだ。) Leonard: (to Raj) Do you…? (Raj checks his underwear) Let's go.
[A bar] Raj: May I have a grasshopper with a little umbrella, please?(小さい傘付きのグラスホッパー下さい。) Howard: No, he may not. Raj: Why? Howard: I'm not sitting here with a guy drinking a grasshopper with a little umbrella.(小さい傘付きのグラスホッパー飲んでる男と一緒に居たくないんだ。) Raj: Fine. I'll have a chocolate martini.(わかった、チョコレート・マティーニにしよう。) Howard: Wrong again! Raj: Come on, you know I can't talk to women unless I'm lit up like the Hindu festival of Diwali*.(いいじゃないか、僕はインド祭のディーワーリーみたいにライト・アップされないと女の子としゃべれないんだ。) Howard: Look, there are plenty of bars in Los Angeles where you can order grasshoppers and chocolate martinis, but you wouldn't have to because there are no women in them.(いいかい、ロス・アンジェルスには君がグラスホッパーやチョコレート・マティーニを注文できるバーが沢山ある、でも君は注文なくてもいいなぜならそこには女の子がいないからさ。) Raj: Gotcha. I'll have a Brandy Alexander.(わかった、ブランディー・アレクサンダーにしよう。) Howard: All right, the Three Musketeers just became the Dynamic Duo.(いいよ、三銃士は今ダイナミック・デュオになった。) Leonard: Should we talk to some of these women?(この子達に話しかけるべきかな?) Howard: It's way too early in the night for that. See, first we let the lawyers and the jocks thin the herd, and then we go after the weak and the old and the lame.(まだ早すぎる。 Leonard: That's your system?(それが君のやり方?) Howard: That's my system. Oh, and if you spot a chick with a Seeing Eye dog, she's mine.(それが僕のやり方だ。
[The stairwell] Penny: Oh come on. I think it's nice that Captain Sweatpants showed up to your art opening.(おー、そうよ、スェットパンツ隊長が芸術展に現れたのは良かったわね。) Stuart: Yeah, it would have been nicer if he hadn't touched all the cheese.(そうだね、彼がチーズに触らなければもっとよかったのに。) Penny: Um, you know, it's kind of early. Do you want to maybe come in for some coffee or something?(うー、えーと、まだ少し早いわね。 Stuart: Oh, gee, it's a little late for coffee, isn't it?(おー、コーヒーには少し遅くないかい?) Penny: Oh, you think coffee, means coffee, that is so sweet. Come on, I think I have decaf.(おー、あなたコーヒーはコーヒーのことだと思ってるのね、可愛いわ。 Sheldon: Oh, good, Stuart, I thought I heard your voice. Do you have a moment?(おー、いいとこで会った、君の声だと思ったんだ、少し時間ある?) Stuart: Uh, yeah, I guess. Penny: Sheldon, we're a little busy here, so… Sheldon: What are you doing? Stuart: We're having coffee. Sheldon: Isn't it a little late for coffee? Stuart: It's okay. She thinks she has decaf. Penny: I'll just go look for it. Stuart: What's up? Sheldon: Well, I've spent the last three hours in an online debate in the DC Comics Batman chatroom, and I need your help.(DCコミックのおしゃべり室のオン・ライン議論で3時間過ごしたんだけど、君の助けがいるんだ。) Stuart: Oh yeah. Those guys can be very stubborn. Sheldon: I am asserting, in the event that Batman's death proves permanent, that original Robin, Dick Grayson, is the logical successor to the Bat Cowl.(バットマンの死が永久だって判明した事件で僕は、オリジナルのロビン、ディック・グレイソンがバット・マスクの論理的継承者だって主張してるんだ。) Stuart: Ooh, Sheldon, I'm afraid you couldn't be more wrong.(おー、シェルダン、悪いけど君はあり得ないほど間違ってる。) Sheldon: More wrong? Wrong is an absolute state and not subject to gradation.(あり得ないほど? Stuart: Of course it is. It's a little wrong to say a tomato is a vegetable, it's very wrong to say it's a suspension bridge. But returning to the original issue, Dick Grayson became Nightwing, a superhero in his own right. Batman 2 has to be the second Robin, Jason Todd.(もちろん程度の問題にはなるよ。 Sheldon: Has to be? Has to be? I hope you're being deliberately provocative.(ならなきゃ? Penny: I found the decaf!(デカフェ見つけたわ。) Stuart: Oh, great! Sheldon: Yeah, herbal tea for me, please.(ああ、僕にはハーブティーちょうだい。)
[The bar] Raj: Barkeep! Alexander me.(バーテンさん、アレクサンダーちょうだい。) Leonard: How about those two? Howard: Nah, they're eating peanuts, and my allergies, one kiss would put me in Cedar-Sinai for a week.(だめ、彼らはピーナッツ食べてる。 Leonard: What about the ones in the corner?(あの角の子はどう?) Howard: Possible, very possible. Do you want the one in the whiplash collar or the one who keeps blinking?(とても可能性ありだ。 Leonard: I think Blinky's cute.(瞬きのほうが可愛いと思う。) Howard: You got it, sir. Leonard: Wait, so we just go over there?(待って、あそこに行くのかい?) Howard: No, we have a little prep work to do. Put this in your mouth. We walk past them, you stumble a bit. I say, sorry, my friend's had a little too much, and then I start to pull it out of your mouth and say, a little too much fun. Get it? I mean, they're laughing, we're laughing, and then we get them up to about a .15 blood alcohol level, and tell them we're millionaires.(いや、準備段階が必要だ。 Leonard: What else you got?(他には?) Howard: Depends. Are you willing to sit on my lap and pretend to be a ventriloquist dummy?(状況次第。 Leonard: No. Howard: I can't sit on your lap, you don't know the routine.(僕は君の膝に座れない、君は手順を知らないからね。)
[Penny's apartment] Stuart: I'm sorry, but you're obviously stuck in a pre-Zero Hour DC universe.(失礼だけど、君は明らかにDC宇宙のプレ・ゼロ・アワーにとらわれてる。) Sheldon: Of course I am. Removing Joe Chill as the killer of Batman's parents effectively deprived him of his raison d'etre.(もちろんさ。 Stuart: Okay, you can throw all the French around you want, it doesn't make you right.(オーケー、幾らでもフランス語を使うがいい、でもそれは君を正当化することにはならないよ。) Sheldon: Au contraire.(反対だ。) Stuart: Plus, you're forgetting that the Infinite Crisis storyline restored Joe Chill to the Batman mythology.(それに、君はインフィニット・クライシスのストリー・ラインがジョー・チルをバットマン神話に復活させたことを忘れてる。) Sheldon: I am forgetting nothing and I resent your tone.(僕は何も忘れてない。 Stuart: Okay, look, Sheldon, it's late and I've got to get some sleep.(オーケー、いいかい、シェルダン、もう遅い、僕は寝なきゃならない。) Sheldon: So, I win.(じゃあ僕の勝ちだ。) Stuart: No, I'm tired.(いや、僕は疲れた。) Sheldon: So, I win.(じゃあ僕の勝ちだ。) Stuart: Fine. You win.(わかった、君の勝ちだ。) Sheldon: Darn tootin', I win.(その通り、僕の勝ちだ。) Stuart: Penny, I really had a terrific time. Sheldon: No, no, no, no, don't wake her. She'll maul you like a rabid Wolverine*.(だめ、だめ、彼女を起こさないで。 Stuart: You know, I don't think that was decaf.(あれはデカフェじゃなかったと思う。)
[The bar] Howard: Wait, is this your card or isn't it? Trust me, this was their card.(待って、これは君のカードかい? Leonard: I thought you were good at this. You're always talking about how you go to bars and meet women.(僕はこういうの君が得意なのかと思ってた。 Howard: I do, all the time. Leonard: Well, what happened? We've been sitting here all night and the longest conversation you've had with a woman was when your mom called.(それで、実際何が起きたか? Howard: Wow, you're just going to make me come out and say it, aren't you?(ワオ、君は僕にそれを告白させようとしてるのかい?) Leonard: Say what? Howard: You're weighing me down. I'm a falcon who hunts better solo.(君は僕を落胆させるよ。 Leonard: Fine. I'll sit here. You take flight and hunt.(いいよ。 Howard: Don't be ridiculous, you can't just tell a falcon when to hunt.(バカなこと言うなよ。 Leonard: Actually, you can. There's a whole sport built around it. Howard: Shut up. Let's just get Koothrappali and go.
(They turn to see Raj with his tongue down the throat of a "larger lady" by the bar.) Howard: Lucky bastard. It's got to be that stupid accent of his.
(To a girl nearby) Howard: Hello. I am Sanjay Wolowitz from Bombay. Okay, I'm stumped.(こんにちは。
[Raj's apartment]
(He wakes up clutched in the arms of the large lady. Tries to get away. She clutches him tighter. He shrugs and goes back to sleep.)
